Settings & server config

Everything here can be managed two ways: on this web dashboard, or from inside Discord with the interactive /settings (personal) and /serverconfig (admin) panels. Both edit the same underlying settings and update in place; use whichever is closer to hand.

In Discord: /settings and /serverconfig

If you'd rather not open the dashboard, the two slash commands do the same job as ephemeral, interactive panels (only you see them):

  • /settings: your personal panel. A dropdown edits your translation language, formality, engine, text-to-speech voice, personal translate emoji, country, and glossary; a row of buttons toggles the weekly digest, reply-DM translations, vote reminders, and public profile.
  • /serverconfig: the server panel (needs Manage Server). A dropdown edits the default language, server translate emoji, auto-translate engine, message styles, and server glossary; buttons toggle flag reactions, repost branding, delete-original, and the public stats page. Access control (required role, blocked members) stays on /access.

Both panels are English-only for now. The rest of this page describes the same settings as they appear on the web dashboard.

The settings modal

Click your profile (desktop) or the settings cog in the mobile header to open the settings sheet. It has three tabs.

Account

  • Appearance. System default, Dark, or Light. System default follows your device's light/dark mode and switches with it automatically; picking Dark or Light keeps that theme everywhere on the site.
  • Contact email. Optional. It's used to email you ticket replies, usage alerts, and the weekly digest if Discord DMs don't reach you. The bot never requests your email from Discord.
  • Weekly digest. Toggle the once-a-week "your week in translation" summary on or off (see Dashboard guide). It's delivered by Discord DM and your inbox, plus email if you've saved one.
  • Sign out of the dashboard on this device.
  • Download your data. A JSON export of everything stored about you (GDPR).
  • Danger zone: Delete my account. Permanently erases your personal data. A pseudonymised, hashed record of this month's usage is kept so the free monthly allowance can't be reset by deleting and rejoining, and it auto-expires next month.

Translation

  • Translation language. The language your translations are returned in.
  • Translate reaction emoji. Your personal DM-translation emoji.
  • Formality. Formal, informal, or default (paid; see Reactions & glossary).
  • Translation engine. DeepL, Azure, OpenAI, or Gemini (shown when there's a choice; OpenAI and Gemini are the AI engines and share a monthly allowance, from Free 25 up to Max unlimited).
  • Reply translations (DM). When someone replies to your message in an auto-translated channel, get their reply sent to you in a private DM, translated into your language, while the normal in-channel reply still appears for everyone. It reuses the translation the channel already produced, so it costs you nothing extra, and only DMs you when the channel translates into your language. Off by default.

Subscription

Your current plan, an upgrade or downgrade option, and (if you're subscribed) a link to manage the subscription.

Servers page (per-server configuration)

Open Servers and pick a server you manage. The dropdown shows server icons, and a green dot means the bot is installed. Settings are grouped into cards.

Member translations

  • Default language. The fallback target for members who haven't set their own. It's used by the right-click command and the server emoji.
  • Flag reactions. Let members react with a country flag to translate a message publicly.
  • Server translate emoji. An optional server-wide emoji that translates a message into the default language, posted publicly (billed to whoever reacts).

Auto-translation

  • Engine. The server's auto-translate engine, independent of personal engines. Gemini is the default for new servers. The options are Account default (the enabler's engine), DeepL, Azure, OpenAI, and Gemini.
  • Delete original. When on, the bot removes the original message after it has been reposted translated, leaving only the translated version. Needs the Manage Messages permission. Off by default.
  • Repost branding. A Pro/Max toggle to hide the discovery link in reposts.

Access control

Who can trigger translations that produce public bot output in this server. Two controls, both optional:

  • Blocked members. Blocked members are skipped by channel auto-translate and linked channels, and can't trigger (or be the subject of) public reaction translations or live captions.
  • Required role. When set, only members with the role are auto-translated, bridged, or reaction-translated.

Also available from Discord with /access (role, block, unblock, show; needs Manage Server). Private, only-you translations (right-click Translate, the personal emoji) are not affected.

Server glossary

Shared preserved words for everyone in the server (see Reactions & glossary).

Channel auto-translation

The per-channel target languages. This is the same control as the dedicated Auto-translate page.

Server insights & public stats

A read-only card showing your server's translation activity: total messages translated and the most common languages translated into and from (no message content, just counts).

You can flip on Public stats to publish a shareable, search-engine-friendly page at https://translate.lowe.lol/s/<server id> showing those same totals. It's off by default, and while it's off the page returns a generic "not available" placeholder so nothing leaks. Turn it on if you'd like a public page to show off how multilingual your community is.

Language I write in

Optional but powerful: tell the bot what language you write in (Settings → Translation → Language I write in on the dashboard). Automatic features (channel auto-translate, linked channels) then trust your pin instead of language detection for your messages, which fixes short messages like "ok" or "no" being misread. Leave it on auto-detect if you regularly write in several languages.

Translation style (Max)

Max subscribers can give their AI-engine translations a personal tone: pick a preset (Casual, Formal, Friendly, Concise, Gamer, Literary) or write a short custom instruction like "keep my slang". Custom text is reviewed automatically before it is used, and a style only ever changes tone, never meaning. Set it under Settings → Translation → Translation style.
