Reaction-to-translate#

There are three reaction triggers. They rely on message-content features being enabled for the server. If reactions don't translate, that feature may be turned off on your server.

Country flag reactions#

When flag reactions are enabled for a server (Servers → Flag reactions), any member can react to a message with a country flag emoji (🇫🇷, 🇩🇪, 🇯🇵, …) and the bot posts a public translation into that flag's language. Billed to the reacting member.

Your personal emoji (DM translation)#

Set a personal emoji in Settings → Translation → Translate reaction emoji. React to any message with it and the bot DMs you a translation in your language (unless it's already that language). This is private; only you get the DM. Billed to you.

The server translate emoji (public)#

A server admin can set a server-wide translate emoji (Servers → Server translate emoji). When a member reacts with it, the message is translated into the server default language and posted publicly, billed to whoever reacted. Requires a server default language to be set.

All three use standard Unicode emoji. Custom server emoji and text aren't accepted as triggers.

Glossary (preserved words)#

The glossary keeps chosen terms untranslated, useful for brand names, usernames, in-jokes, project names, or technical terms that shouldn't be "translated."

How it works internally: before translating, each preserved term is swapped for a placeholder token; after translating, the original term is restored. Longer phrases are protected first so they aren't broken up by shorter ones.

One-off preservation with [[double brackets]]#

For a term you don't want to save permanently, wrap it in double square brackets right in the message: See [[LowBot]] for details keeps LowBot untranslated and drops the brackets from the result. It needs no setup, works on every translation surface (right-click, /translate, reactions, channel auto-translate) and every engine, and is billed like any normal translation. Like a glossary term, a bracketed span is preserved wherever that exact text appears in the message, not only inside the brackets. Use the glossary for words you preserve often, and [[brackets]] for the occasional one-off.

Personal glossary#

Manage yours on the dashboard Glossary page. Your preserved words apply to your translations (right-click, /translate, flag/emoji reactions you trigger). Per-plan limits:

• Free: 5 preserved words
• Pro: 20 preserved words
• Max: unlimited

Server glossary#

Server admins can add a shared glossary for the whole server (Servers → Server glossary). These terms are preserved for everyone in that server, on top of each person's personal glossary, and apply to flag reactions, the server emoji, and channel auto-translate. The server glossary size limit follows the configuring admin's plan.

Formality#

Some languages have a formal/informal distinction (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese). On paid plans you can set Settings → Translation → Formality to Formal, Informal, or Default, and your translations into those languages use the tone you picked. For languages without a formal/informal distinction it has no effect, and the translation always still succeeds.

Term pairs (Max)#

Beyond preserving words, Max subscribers can map them: "always translate hamu as hamster". Term pairs apply on the AI engines (Gemini/OpenAI) wherever your messages are translated, and are managed on the dashboard's Glossary page (up to 50 pairs; each pair is reviewed automatically when added).
